TONY TAVE

To say Tony Tave has had a successful skateboarding career would be an understatement. Not even a quarter century old, Tave has already achieved the dream of becoming a homeowner thanks to some really amazing video parts over the past few years. Most people Tony’s age are still in school, living with their parents or sharing a shitty apartment with some friends trying to make ends meet. Tave on the other hand, along with his huge crew of friends and teammates, is taking over the suburbs and giving a new definition to the American dream, much to the dismay of his neighbors.

How many times have you thought to yourself “If I hit the jackpot, I would just buy an insane house and have all my friends move in and do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted”? Tony Tave and all his homies show you what happens when dreams come true and skateboarders transform a quiet San Clemente cul de sac into the epicenter of skating and partying.

Take a look into the not so normal life of Tave and his buddies, but dont get too sucked in, you may never make it out.

Games of SKATE seem to be pretty hot right now, so Vans went ahead and claimed one of their own. Both skate parks in Orange, CA and Orlando, FL will be hosting the “Man, I Need Vans Game of S.K.A.T.E.” on Saturday, February 21st at 3pm.

The winner of each age division (2 divisions: 6 - 13 and 14+) wins a year’s supply of Vans shoes (12 pair). Registration starts at 12:00pm the day of the contest and there is no additional entry fee other than the regular price to skate! Limited spots available so show up early for registration. About Tod Swank and Foundation Skateboards
Tod Swank is a skate rat from the 80's generation. Growing up skating Del Mar Skate Ranch in Del Mar, CA. He went on to be a Senior staff photographer and writer for Transworld Skateboarding Magazine. This along side being an amateur skater. Had a short stint as a struggling pro. Traveled extensively through the US, Canada and greater Europe. Meeting skaters and making lifelong friends. In 1989 he started Foundation Skateboards under the urging of famed industry upstart, Steve Rocco, who started World Industries among other companies. Foundation struggled to gain it's place in the skateboarding community and grew extensively through the nineties with success. Spawning off other companies with other skateboarders. Most prominently Toy Machine with Ed Templeton, Zero with Jamie Thomas and in house brands Pig Wheels and Ruckus Trucks. And more recently Dekline Footwear. Foundation has a epic roster of professional riders that has ridden for the company. Including the current line up with Corey Duffel heading up the posse.

For the third consecutive year, DVS Shoes and the Copenhagen Skatepark have teamed up to produce one of Europe’s fastest growing contest events—the CPH Pro. Boasting one of the largest prize purses in Europe, this year’s contest is set to take place on June 26, 27, and 28.

(rough guidelines for selecting the appropriate size skateboard deck)

Kids sizes vary a lot with each year of age, so taking a big average is hard. Especially when worldwide statistics are lumped together. Choose your size where you fit in best. SKBSG

These guidelines matter less and less with age, because when kids start getting stronger around 13 years old, their strength and skill will overcome the usual limitations associated with being small. Deck size then becomes more a matter of preference, depending on your type of skateboarding.SKBSG.

Since the wheelbase mostly dictates the quickness and ease of movement of a deck, the overall length of the board is probably the biggest factor in choosing the right deck. Your natural stance over that wheelbase, as well as the leverage you can muster, correlate largely with your height. All too often, kids ride oversized boards, looking like they're doing the splits, and work way too hard just to raise the front truck.

The mid-sizes, minis and micros have proportionately smaller widths and concaves, which are tailored to give them the same basic feel across the deck as the big kids feel riding normal size decks.

ERIC KOSTON TO PRO TEAM
2/17/09– Chicago based Jessup Manufacturing is proud to announce the addition of skateboard icon Eric Koston to it’s pro team. Jessup Manufacturing has been producing premium skateboard specific griptape since 1975. Currently residing in Los Angeles, CA, Koston hails from San Bernardino, California. Known for his technical wizardry and fearlessness, Koston is one of the most loved skaters of all time. Eric is currently a part of the Girl skateboard team and is also the founder of Fourstar clothing.

Eric Koston first began skateboarding at age 11. By the age of 18, Eric had stacked enough skills to turn pro, moving to San Diego to join the now legendary H-Street team in 1991. Shortly thereafter, Koston’s talents were recognized by skate legend and industry icon, Natas Kaupus, who convinced Koston to move to Los Angeles and join the 101 team. On 101, Koston established himself as a leading switchstance skateboarder - pioneering such technical tricks as the nollie flip noseslide and the switch kickflip backside tailslide. Of legend, Eric Koston landed a switch 360 flip down the Embarcadero 7 during his part in 101's 1993 video, cementing himself as one of the most technically advanced skateboarders of his time. Koston’s stance is goofy, but he is known for his ability to skate switch. Known for his technical skill and fearless commitment, Koston is known to create new tricks at any given moment, on the streets, or in competition. He is also known for commercializing the competitive, HORSE-derivative, game of S.K.A.T.E. Koston has won numerous skateboard contests including; X-games, Gravity Games, Slam City Jam and the notorious Tamp Pro. Koston has also been voted Skater of the Year. Koston currently rides for Girl skateboards, Lakai shoes, Fourstar clothing, and Independent trucks.

Koston had this to say about the new relationship “I have been skating on Jessup grip since I was a kid, it has always been the best grip. I am stoked to be on the team.”

ASR equals Actions Sports Retailer. In the past, that meant yo-yos, hula-hoops… Basically anything that was “action”-related and available from manufacturers to shops. Now, ASR stand for A Sorry Reality. In skateboarding, we need to collectively take ourselves away from these greedy bastards and throw our own show. We tried it here in 2002 with the Bayview Rumble, but there wasn’t enough space for everyone—and besides, the industry was fat then. Now, when things are lean, we got to stick together and support skateboarding, the shops, the real brands… Doing all of this with some killer ripping thrown in and, well, check the vid. It was a hell of a lot of fun. Good people, nice weather, skating for everybody, no laminates, no security goons—it was a true start towards getting skateboarding and the economy back on its feet.
