
Although skateboarding means many different things to many different people, most could agree that it is an escape from the daily stresses of life. Motivated by a desire to see Afghan youth “freed” from the violence and struggles of their war-torn country, 34-year-old Australian Oliver Percovich became the unofficial ambassador of skateboarding to Kabul, Afghanistan. Besides handing out boards to disadvantaged youth, this skate hero is hoping to open “Skateistan” by this spring, a school where kids can learn how to skate.
