SKBSG SK8 NEWS UPDATES

Happy Memorial Day! Yep, that day when people remember soldiers that have fought in US wars. The holiday honors the people who have died or served, whether you are a pacific patriot or a troop-backing patriot.

For most people, though, it means a day off, which leads to barbeques, basking in the spring (almost summer) sun and kicking back. Basically, not much happens today, so here are a few things to look out for:

Kerry Getz is still good. He's Battle Commander

Sinner Interview over at ShakeJunt will lead to speculation about Baker, Leo and whatever other Baker-related news kids want to decipher these days.

Armourdillo , an Australian jeans brand has sponsored Corey Duffel to have his own signature line. International crossovers.

Lastly, Bakerboys have some new stuff up and little vids from a signing here...

...I don't know what else to tell you. It's a slow day and you should be out grilling out anyway, so enjoy.

SKBSG SK8 NEWS UPDATES

There are throngs of things coming down the pipe, most notably, Back to the Berg , the Wallenberg challenge on May 30th at Wallenberg High School from Noon to 1pm. Based around that event, Girl and Chocolate are doing demos starting on the day before the contest at Val Surf in Encino, CA and the day after Wallenberg at Epic Skatepark in Sacramento, CA. Whether some of the dudes might not be able to skate after Wallenberg is a question. Anyone at the Skate Life Northwest trade show at the Department of Skateboarding in Portland will probably be talking about what happened at Wallenberg from 1pm to 5pm. Ams hoping to make a name for themselves might have a hard time deciding between being at the Wallenberg event or the Damn Am contest at 3rd Lair Skatepark in Minneapolis. Lastly, a few of the names hucking themselves down SF's famous set might be kicking off the Zumiez Couch Tour , starting on May 30 until July 1st. Catch 'em if you can.

SKBSG SK8 NEWS UPDATES

In conjunction with LA County's 15th annual Bike To Work Day, Podium Distribution, makers of DVS Shoes, Matix Clothing and Lakai Footwear continued its Pedal To Podium program by holding a company-wide bike ride on Thursday, May 14. On the heels of its original program, Podium VP Brian Dunlap wanted to continue to promote the Pedal To Podium ethic as a greener, healthier alternative to driving.

"Biking is a great way to help protect the environment," says Dunlap. "We all need to do our part. Even if employees only ride to work one day a month it still helps."

Employees who rode to work received a free case of Vitamin Water and were given a custom pair of DVS Pedal To Podium shoes. In total 15 employees rode in clocking a combined total of 310 miles—burning approximately 10,000 calories and saving roughly 310 pounds of heat-trapping CO2 from being emitted into the earth's atmosphere.

On the same day, 31 employees went on a five-mile bike ride to lunch. Each employee consumed a 400-calorie burger at lunch, but burned off roughly the same amount of calories riding to and from. "We have employees biking to work from all over LA," explains Dunlap. "Some people, however, live too far to ride in. For those who couldn't ride to work could at least leave their cars parked at lunch. We had over a third of the employees join in on the lunch ride."

A few weeks ago the Globe crew took a fun little field trip to the brand new Epic skatepark in Rocklin, California (Sacramento area) to put the finishing touches on a team section for United By Fate episode 5. The trip was stacked with a heavy crew: Chris Haslam, Mark Appleyard, Ryan Decenzo, Jake Duncombe, Matt Mumford, Luan Oliveira, Louie Lopez, Greg Lutzka, David Gonzalez and multiple filmers and photographers.

This park is sick and has a bit of everything to shred for everyone. Time flies when you’re setting up shoots, filming, gassing up genniess, and making beer runs.—Chet Thomas
