VAN WASTELL ( 1984 - 2008 )
Skateboarding suffered a tragic loss today: Van Wastell has passed away at the age of 24. The details surrounding his death remain unconfirmed, but we will update this post when they become available. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Wastell family and their loved ones.

Silas Laces Up With Adidas
Silas Baxter-Neal has had a big-ass year. Aside from getting a ridiculous amount of coverage in every form of skateboard media, he dropped an amazing part in Habitat's Inhabitants, picked up a new clothing sponsor (Elwood), nabbed Transworld Skateboarding's "Best Rookie" award and was part of their "Best Team" award as well (Habitat). Now the dude who can skate just about everything has made a big move by leaving eS' Footwear to take up residence as an Adidas team rider. Go to the Adidas site to check out exclusive photos of Silas skating in a full-on Adidas get-up. On the topic of eS', the site's team page is missing Raymond Molinar. Word on the gravel is that Raymond is riding for the newly formed Converse skate team, alongside Pops, Sammy Baca and Kenny Anderson. But these are just rumors. No official word yet.
Creation Skateboards

So here's the review portion of this revolutionary post. I got me a hold of some Creation Skateboards recently thanks to Mr. Craig Nejedly. It's been a while since I rode a Creation board and in my momentary hiatus, I forgot just how solid Creation boards are. Super stiff with prominent concave and kicks, just the way I like'em. The first board I rode was a Ron Allen deck. This thing clocks in at 7.875 X 31.375. It's a nice width for feeling centered on ones board, while allowing one to maintain the flip tricks that could be lost at any minute (I lose tricks all the time). I rode the f*&k out of this thing and it lasted, all while holding it's pop the entire time. No mush on these boards at all. The other Creation board I rode was a much bigger one. The Creation Nation model is 8.25 X 31.75. It felt real good to ride a bigger board after I had recently revisited my 7.75 days. Super nice, sharp concave and kick on this one as well. In fact I'm still riding this bitch and after two weeks it's still solid under my feet. Go buy a Creation board now so you know just what I'm talking about.

Satori Little Nugs
I'm a big fan of the cruiser board. Here in Brooklyn, the rugged pavement can be your worst enemy if you're not careful. Turn a corner, hit a pot hole or large crack and you're done. So when you're not into getting real serious with the sesh, it's cruiser territory for us New Yorkers. I've been riding a Zoo York Zinger for a while with some big, soft 65MM wheels on it. While it was fun to push around on them, doing any tricks with wheels that big was difficult. Sh*t, ollieing up a curb sucked with those tires. All my cruiser woes were put to rest when I started riding these Satori "Little Nugs." These wheels are super soft, 78A, and are small enough (54mm) to be able to lose the riser pads and skate your cruiser like a real board. Kickflips, Tre Flips and even Nollie Flips have suddenly been introduced to my life as a cruiser. So stoked on these wheels. I recommend these Satori Lil' Nugs for anyone who likes to "cruise" but do tricks along the way.

Though just officially announced as a team member this month, he’s been traveling and skating with the DC team for nearly a year now.
While you’re flipping through this month’s mags look for Wes’ welcome ad… or ads, more appropriately. Each of the three major skate publications feature a different sequence, so watch out for ’em all.

Friday at ASR, Grind For Life held a high ollie contest. Little Aldrin Garcia came up a few inches short of the world record but still pulled through with a 40 inch ollie, the highest ollie of the day, and $1,500 cash.

Portland, OR – adidas Skateboarding is proud to announce it’s newest member to the team- Silas Baxter Neal. This Eugene, Oregon native needs no introduction to the skate world. His ability to shred anything in his path with smooth style and pure confidence made him an easy choice to add to the team.
Currently residing in Santa Rosa, California, Silas turned pro for Habitat last year and confirmed that he deserved the honor right out of the gates with insane footage for his Inhabitants video part. He is Transworld’s 2007 Rookie of the Year, and was the subject of an 18-page interview in Thrasher. As if those accolades aren’t impressive enough on their own, check his recent parts in Seasons 4 and the Toebock video. He has recently been featured on the covers of Slap, Transworld and Thrasher’s Photo Issue and received editorial coverage and interviews in Skateboarder and Thrasher’s Am Issue… all within the past year.

It's been a long time waiting and after many sleepless nights and longings for what could and would be, the new season of Patrick O'Dell's Epicly Later'd show has begun. To start things off, the show premiered early this morning with the first installment of the Gino Iannucci episode. In it Gino gives a tour of his old stomping grounds around his hometown of Long Island. Man, I wish they gave you all of these things at once. What a g'damned tease. Whatever. Such a simple, yet effective tool of recruitment. Amazing, really. Can't wait for the rest of these things.

Freaks And Greeks
The DVS team is in the process of sipping strong coffee in diners and eating only gyros as a means of preparation for their upcoming "Freak And Greeks" Tour. Starting September 15th, Kerry Getz, Chico Brenes, Paul Shier, Mark Baines and Flo Mirtain will fly into Greece to take the country by storm. The team will be stopping to visit Greece's finer skateshops for demos, signings and thug hugs. It's gonna be a gnarly trip. Altamont Apparel has just announced the upcoming release of The Foreigners, a short film shot and directed by Randy Randall of the band, No Age. The film documents Altamont’s latest trip to Paris, France. Here's what the press release says...
"Randy captured an impressionist's view of the Altamont skate team abroad from his unique visual artist's perspective; encapsulating the look, the feel and, of course, the skating to produce this short glimpse of life on the road with Altamont." DVS just announced their newest collaboration project and this one is without a doubt a hot one. DVS and Livestock have gotten together to create a shoe that will reflect Livestock's "Less is more," philosophy. This one is available in the DVS Rico model in high-end materials that have yet to appear on this shoe. This one will be available for a very limited time in Waxed Black Canvas and White Patent Leather. Dropping September 14th, this exclusive tag team will be sold in Livestock locations across Canada. I'm putting my order in on the morning of the 14th 'cause these things are bangin' as all hell. I'm on it.
Element
Bam's Spot Gets Raided
Recently a bunch of Element riders made a trek out East to visit Bam Margera's compound in the sticks of Pennsylvania. What went down was an all-out skate session where all hell broke loose on and off the board. The whole thing has been documented in an Element produced film called, Bam's Or Bust. The film features' Bam, Mike V., Darrell Stanton, Brent Atchley, Chad Tim Tim, Collin Provost and Bamland's hardest lurker, Brandon Novak. The full video will appear at Element's website on October 1st. You can also get a free copy of the flick when you buy any of Bam's "Bam's Or Bust" pro boards.

SKATE NEWS
We are proud to welcome original Stereo Pro, Carl Shipman, back to the team. He will be joining Jason Lee, Chris Pastras, Matt Rodriguez and Chris Miller on the Stereo Classics Division. Carl was an integral part in making Stereo what it is today and we are happy to see him back in action and ready to join the Agency once again. Look for Carl’s Stereo reissue board, which will be out within the next month in the Fall/Winter 08 catalog. Welcome back Agent WRK94!
What also went down this weekend was the Thrasher Magazine hosted, Bust Or Bail contest. It all happened at the Paul Revere School in San Francisco. There was 25 K on the line which included a first place 10 G's for the hottest sh*t busted down or on the rail of this massive 16 stair set. I wasn't there of course, but from the looks of the highlighted footage of the contest some burliness popped the f&*K off. Ryan Sheckler took an unexpected first place, as he's not known for his "real street" participation these days. Andrew Reynolds took second and some dude named Andrew Langi took third.
Hood Games/Town Park Project
Hood Games Fundraiser
The Hood Games, an organization dedicated to the building of an Oakland skatepark is well on its way to finishing the project. However, there's still much needed work and money to finish the park altogether. This Thursday, September 4th, a fundraiser will be happening at the Aiir Bar & Lounge from 6-9PM. If you're around, stop by, show your support of the well-worthy cause and help spread skateboarding throughout the Bay Area.
