BRAZIL X GAMES 2

Here's a cool one from last night—Potter's show-stopping cliffhanger backflip. Moto blogger/shimp hater Ryan Leyba was almost dead-on with his predictions right before the event. The digital camera that I myself am using here in Brazil is the Zach Morris Cell Phone equivalent: clunky, cumbersome and old. Still, it manages to rattle off some decent shots. Here's one to get you pumped on Skate Vert this afternoon (note the photo credit). Digo Menezes had the top score in the elimination rounds with a giant stalefish 720. Lincoln Ueda, Adam Taylor, Neal Hendrix, Bob Burnquist and Sandro Dias round out the highly qualified field of competitors.

BRAZIL X GAMES

Dayne Brummet is the only American competing in Skate Street down here in Brazil. I don't speak a lick of Portuguese, so this interview was destined to happen. I caught him as he took a breather just off the street course."I'm having fun out there," he said. "Right now the wood is pretty soft, so it's hard to pop our boards off. That makes all the difference. But the bikers like it, or so I've heard. The rails are okay and but we'll see how it goes—honestly I've got a hurt ankle anyway, so I'm kind of expecting to get murdered out here. That's okay though—I'm having a good time.""A few guys are definitely skating well," Dayne pointed out. "pThis guy Milton [Martinez] is really killing it. So is Klaus [Bohms]. There was one guy from Germany [Alex Mizurov] who rolled around one time and went right back to the airport, I think. I'm pretty sure I'm the only American in the whole place & Yup, it's just me from the US and nobody else. That's cool though. My wife is Brazilian and I speak a little Portuguese, so it isn't like I'm out there all alone not talking to anybody."

Don Bostick is a fixture in the skate world, and his resume reads like something off a kid's "dream jobs" list: Competition Director, National Skateboard Association (1989 - 91); President/Director, National Skateboard Association (1991 - 93); Founder/President/Director, World Cup Skateboarding (1993 to present)—this keeps going and going. So who better to ask about X Games Brazil in order to get a feel for who might come out on top?

Sandro Dias: Brazilian Vert Wizard."On the Vert side, Bob Burnquist. He's very competitive and likes to win in his home country to let them know that he is still the man. And Sandro Dias for pretty much the same reason. Also, Marcelo Bastos: Sasha says if he nails his runs, he's the one to beat. He didn't skate well at the Oi Vert Jam, but if he puts it together, he is the new up-and-coming pro. Rodrigo Menezes is always a threat and a treat to watch. Lincoln Ueda skated well at Oi and I think it may still have some fire in him.""On the Park side, I think Rodolfo Ramos is currently the best Brazilian street/park skater, especially in contests. Diego Oliveria is another great contest skater—good under pressure, plus he aways skates great in Brazil. Milton Martinez—I just like this kid. He was so smooth at X Games Mexico. Finally, Alex Mizurov (Europe's best) and Daniel Vieira (one of Brazil's best contest skaters)."

The weekend's almost here and if you're in or around New Jersey, you'll need to head to Sayreville Skatepark this Saturday, April 26th. Chris Nieratko's shop, NJ Skateshop will be hosting this Red Bull demo featuring riders, Zered Bassett, Danny Supa, Ron Deily and Nick Dompierre. Be there at 3PM sharp to skate the park with the team, chug some liquid energy and rep dirty jerz to the absolute fullest. Chris also sent me over this video link of a Shields Skatepark, April 13th skate jam featuring 13 East Coast shops. All came together to shred the park for a great cause, and when all was said and done, $2,500 was raised for The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. Check the video.
On a super sad note, Ali Boulala has been sentenced to at least two years in jail for his involvement in the motorcycle crash that took the life of his friend and teammate, Shane Cross last year. In an article in the Australian paper, The Daily Telegraph, it's noted that Boulala was likely to be permanently affected by the injuries he sustained in the crash and it's unknown as to whether or not he will skate again. It also mentioned that Ali "Had a reduced range of movement, strength and coordination and sufered spasticity in his lower righ leg." Truly sad stuff. My condolences go to Ali and his loved ones in this extended period of suffering.

David G On The VNew Flip pro and Colombian native, David Gonzalez has been added to the Volcom team. The little long haired man-child is proving to be the future of skateboarding, skating anything and everything like every little grom wishes they could. Circa footwear has a bunch of footage posted in something called THE CIRCA VIDEO LOUNGE, and includes demo and street footy from C1RCA's Tour de Smash 2007 South America rendezvous. There's a bunch of sick skating in there from Tony Tave, David Reyes, Windsor James, Julian Davidson and Danny Cerezini. Check the latest video and watch them skate before hundreds of fans in packed out arenas, in between getting chased down by crowds of screaming girls as if they were the g'damned New Kids On The Block. Times have changed, haven't they.

MONSTER SKATE PARK

MONSTER SKATE PARK ( AUSTRALIA, SYDNEY).

Monster is the only international standard indoor outdoor ramp set up in Australia with an indoor street course and outdoor vert and mini ramps as well as a skate shop and Xbox Entertainment Lounge.
Designed and built by riders for riders, Monster caters for the needs of riders of all skill levels and riding tastes. The park offers Ride with a Pro clinics, school PDHPE and school programs and is also home to a range of regional, national and international action sports events.
Opening Times
10am until 10pm, 7 days
The Park also has special earlier opening times for pre-booked clinics and school sessions

RAMPS
Monster has been designed and built by Australian Ramp Design in consultation with top skaters and BMXers. Tested and given the massive thumbs up by Bucky Lasek and the Monster Pros: skateboarders Trevor Ward & Corbin Harris, BMXers Matt Fairburn & Mike Daly and inliners Cesar Mora & Toby Heslop.
All the ramps are covered in hARD, an international comp-styled surfaced that delivers a fast and smooth ride (and dries quickly in the wet). The steel structures and construction method means the ramps are portable and can be changed.
VERT RAMP
14 1/2 ft high, 68ft wide featuring an extension on one side and two monster roll-ins on the other, one 18 1/2 ft and the other 21 1/2 ft. This international competition-sized beast is the only vert ramp of this size in the country.
The ramp is the centrepiece of the park and has been built to support and encourage vert ramp riding.
The flat bottom of the ramp is also used to teach kids to ‘pump’ across the smooth wide surface in Ride with a Pro clinics.

SPINED-MINI RAMP
Two adjacent six foot mini ramps connected by a spine, a street spine and a roll through.
This mini ramp is a playground for mini and park skaters alike with an 8 ft extension, 10ft over-vert and a bank section with rails on the wide platform.

INDOOR STREET
Covering 1000 square metres, the street course has been designed for everyone, from beginners on ramps right through to experienced street riders. From gentle 3 ft flat banks to a street spine and 10ft wall ride, this interchangeable set up is a street dream.
