SKBSG SK8 NEWS UPDATES

I think a few people were worried when Antwuan started waving this board around, but he was just joking. Nothing happened.
A lot happened at Crossroads, so I just made a short video, which you can see below. But, for anyone who wants a little more info, here's some rundown: 1) Jon Goemann will be pro after the Slave premiere tonight 2) Both Elissa Steamer and Ben Gilley had pro board prototypes in the Zero tent, but, unfortunately, I didn't see Keegan Sauder's board there 3) Slash got a shoe on Fallen 4) Jimmy Carlin is wearing Fallens, whether that means anything or not 5) Shakejunt had a stripper in their booth 6) Justin Brock is likely to be the next Real pro 7) Converse has a whole bunch of awesome new shoes coming out...I'm' sure you will be stoked 8) Tyler Hensley won a chunk of money for the water gap, Chris Cole won a bunch for the set of stairs and Kechaud Johnson won the barrel jump. So, watch the video.

SKBSG SK8 NEWS UPDATES

The Crossroads retail show is now the heart of skateboarding's trade shows. It's everyone and anyone who's important in skateboarding. And, like skateboarding always is, it's a whole mess of madness. Here are some shots from the event. Enjoy!

Year two brought a second chance to stab at the barrel jump, an event revived from the 60s and 70s, and it was one of the most awesome events all day, even though there was no chance for different tricks. It was simply awesome to see all these guys hucking their carcasses over the growing line of barrels. Brian "Slash" Hanson gets trippy over nine barrels, like it's the 70s

The Blackbox crew went all out for this Crossroads, installing a secret pool under the long pyramid that they revealed as the last part of the competition. With the addition of Krew beach balls, it was starting to look like a party, so Andrew Pott took a dip in the pool. Then, the skating ensued.

This happened more than you know. About one out of four people lost their boards in the drink. Whenever one went in, Jamie Thomas would step out and instruct the skaters to take their board to the side, so they wouldn't get the pyramid wet. At one point, one kid's board went in and when Jamie stepped out to point him to the side, the flustered little kid thought Jamie was raising his hand at him. The kid jumped out of the water all scared and rushed to the side. Another kid, skating the rail, sacked, got his legs caught on the edge of the pool and slammed face first on the other side. This thing was dangerous.

Social blunders and huge lipslides.
After TumYeto welcomed skateboarding's most controversial (read: trash-talked) figure to Foundation, they've chosen to add him to Dekline shoes as well, and for good reason. Just take a look at this madness. From Atlantic City dealer back into the spotlight, Nick Merlino's back in the game.

Brock's going pro, I'm pretty sure. But that has nothing to do with that little rumor at the end of this post. I'm not even sure if that's even true.
The future of skate videos? The end of the DVD? I don't know. Not sure if I care. I had my tears over the bedriddening blows to VHS (I still use them from time to time, but you know, they're gonna be like records one day). Times are a-changin' and that may include never getting to scroll through that little bonus section of the DVD menu to watch the leftovers, like this here Bonus from Nike SB's Debacle video. When you see Justin Brock, Grant Taylor, Shane O'Neill, Daryl Angel and Theotis Beasley you'll probably wish you had a tangible copy, though (or you might wonder why this footage wasn't included in the video)...

...word on the streets is actual discs might be included in a future shoes of their team riders or something like that. But, don't quote me on that. It's just a rumor.

So I was posted up at the Crossroads retail tradeshow over at Black Box distribution all day yesterday and I'm back here today. Day one was pretty mellow with lots of pros skating the park (Sean Sheffy sighting!) and some random antics out by all the company booths in the parking lot.
But rather than read me talk about all the hoopla, you may as well just check out some video:

"Do you think this would look good in the gallery?" Alex Olson scopes a potential gallery piece. Kickflip.
Not only is Alex Olson unique in that he is the first son of a former pro skateboarder (Steve Olson) to go pro himself or in his style-oriented, flowing approach to skateboarding, but he just curated a show at the Quicksilver/Autumn pop-up shop/gallery. Noah Johnson caught up with him to learn more about the show, how it came about and Alex's current take on skating. See it here
