Krooked just fortified its am squadron with Floridian ripper Brad Cromer. Don’t worry, there’s more to the story than this little web posting.

That’s right, Flip’s finest stopped by TWS today and answered all your juiciest queries from this article. Stay tuned for the edited video and to find out who is winning the Extremely Sorry pack of goodies.

If, by chance, your gonna be en Mexico between the 5th to the 13th of November or you live there already, know that all the skaters from RVCA will be doing a few demos around those parts. Also, they will have an autograph signing at Pop Shop in Guadalajara.

Long Way Alf

We've had some extensive coverage of all things Adam Alfaro in the last two weeks, but it's because he's a hell of a character. He's come a long way (haven't we all?) from his part in Label Kills to his skating of today and the heavy experimentation he's been getting into in his bedroom. But, he's still just cruisin'. This clip of him rolling through Yalta is a reminder of what you can find when you hop on and let your board carry you where it wants. As I always say on Friday, it's Friday. Go out and skate.—Joshua Brooks

éS x Justin Eldridge x Evan Hecox Collaboration
This one's just in. For the launch of Justin Eldridge's new style kick, éS has teamed up with Chocolate Skateboards and internationally acclaimed skate artist, Evan Hecox. Evan's work has been featured all over the place, including some of the most memorable Chocolate decks ever. Be sure to get all over a pair of these soon, because according to the almighty rule of "the collabo," these things will be gone before you know it.

Whoop That Trick

It's no secret that Mark Appleyard is winning at the skateboard-game. I mean, there's probably not a g'damned thing the guy can't do trick-wise. It's now apparent that Mark is killing the life-game as well, with the addition of a shiny new BMW X5 into his world of luxury. And with that said, what better way to introduce that whip than with a couple lazer flips on one of those ridiculously hard to flip, Creature "Ripriders".

SKATE PARK

It's easy to hate prefab parks. In fact, most people do, except uninformed suburban kids, who get them plopped down in their neighborhoods. Within the skateboard community, it's an unavoidable protection mechanism for some portion of skateboarders to hate the angle or the lack of transition or poor planning a skate park designer installed. This attitude keeps designers at their best. It's simultaneously the most endearing and annoying part of skateboarding.

Josh Brooks

The DWP benches in all their excellence
But, imagine for a moment that you live in Wilmington, California, which by figures is more than two times more dangerous than the US average. According to Sperling's Best Places, an online website that compiles figures about various communities, Wilmington ranks 8 out of 10 in violent crime, an over-reaching category composed of four main offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. The US average is 3. Do you think it would trouble you too much if the street plaza that was built in your neighborhood didn't have enough transition?

Yes or no, when Maxwell Billieon, an entertainment executive, initiated a project, nearly seven months ago, to provide a new skate park to Wilmington's Rec Center, he did so with the kids in mind. Hays Hitzing, who works for the builder Spohn Ranch, explained, "We were approached by a guy named Max Billieon. He really wanted to do something there, give the kids something."

The park appears to be Billieon's first step in a very flashy movement, in which he plans to recruit celebrities to promote projects to uplift urban and global communities and at risk youth—a sort of capitalistic philanthropy. The program is called the Ambassador Series and currently has the support of notables like Wu-Tang's Raekwon, former Fugee Pras, Active Rideshop and skateboarders Daewon Song and Paul Rodriguez Jr.

Josh Brooks

The centerpiece to the park
With connections to Los Angeles City Council's 15th district, Max Billieon and Councilwoman Janice Hahn "were able to get it fast-tracked, where it went through quickly," Hays explained. "There already was a fabricated ramp park there, that Spohn Ranch built about 5 years ago. We took those pieces out and put in a concrete street plaza."

But before any construction was done, Max made sure to involve Paul Rodriguez in the planning process. "He [Max] went around to schools and asked these kids who they like and I guess my name kept coming up," Paul explained. "They approached me about doing the skate park they wanted to do. I would be the guy that makes sure the park turns out right, 'cause sometimes when cities get involved and they don't have a real skater, the obstacles come out funky. I wanted to make sure it didn't come out funky."

In the area of LA, they couldn't have chosen a better Ambassador to help make a street plaza. Saying Paul Rodriguez is skateboarding's best representative would be disingenuous, since there are so many pro skaters that represent different demographics, but he most definitely speaks to a majority of the low-income inner-city kids who find solace in the low cost of boards and shoes and the accessibility of skating rails and ledges. "…It's not really expensive to get into—it's a couple hundred dollars at the most for shoes and a complete and you're up and running," Paul explained.

Josh Brooks

Recreation of the LA High banks
Skating around LA, Paul knew the Wilmington area and the reputation it had for crime. "Wilmington High School is a spot I skated all the time back in the day. Max's goal, if the city would allow us, was to build this park in a spot where the kids had a lot of distractions—where there was troubled youth."

With the interests of these low-income skaters in mind—the kind that skated street like P Rod—Max worked with Spohn Ranch (who discounted the project by about 40 %) to get the park built in a week. The builders used the speedy technique of installing ramps into the pre-existing concrete slab and filling the seam.

This type of construction and the street plaza angle allowed Max and Janice Hahn to maneuver outside the regulations of a standard skate park. In so doing, they avoided the unnecessary helmet rules and annoying tranny nannies that plague most of southern California's skate parks. "Because it doesn't have those advanced features [bowls and transition], there are effectively no regulations on the park—no helmets, no pads. There's not even a sign that says it's a skate park," Hays said. "Otherwise, it would be set up that kids go skate the park, cops drive by, see a kid without a helmet, ticket him. It's the exact thing we want to avoid. These kids have enough opportunities to enter the criminal justice system."

While Spohn Ranch, Maxwell Billieon and Janice Hahn worked through the loopholes, P Rod made sure that certain spots were incorporated into the design. He requested a re-creation of LA's Department of Water and Power granite benches, the Fairfield ledges and LA High banks. "It turned out exactly how I expected," Paul explained. "Nothing too over the top, real simple."

So, for most of the kids who see Paul as a representative of their type of skating, it was just as they expected, too. "The demographic was much different than your Northwest pool skater," Hays said. "The average kid there [at the Grand Opening on September 27] was a 13 year old Hispanic kid, who was content standing in line to hit the granite benches over and over, skating the same thing [check the photostream]."

Joshua Brooks

Half moon slant thingy
The discussion of what's most fun to skate—whether to build a plaza or snake run or bowl—is valid. In fact, wondering who builds skate parks, how they could make them better and what their motives are seems like an equally adequate topic in the forum boards. After all, the people building parks must be held to some sort of accountability.

But, if you were one of those 13 year old kids living in a place like Wilmington, an area overrun by gangs, just south of a city that has seen 272 people die in gang related violence and over 1,500 people as victims of gang-related shooting in 2006, those issues may not concern you to the same degree. As people contemplate design flaws or wonder where the bowls are, it's vital to note that this writer's first visit to the park was postponed by a multi-street police blockade and that the kids in Wilmington see P Rod as their type of skater. So, all quibbles aside, a street plaza with recreated spots, especially one in such a troubled area, is a step in the right direction for Wilmington and other low-income communities that far trumps discussion boards about a misplaced bench.

SKATE NEWS

In the past couple of years, New York transplant, Billy Rohan has done more for the NYC scene then most could imagine. He's secured a school yard designated for street skating, offering a new obstacle almost every week, runs a series of after school skate programs, plotted and hosted three breakthrough skate contents across the city and is now the only skateboarding teacher in New York's high school curriculum. This past Sunday, the New York Times ran a story about the skateboard class Billy teaches for 9th and 10th graders of the East Side Community High School. Check out the full article here. And in case you didn't figure it out, that's Rohan beneath that ninja suit. Don't you wish your High School teacher skated this good?

Dekline

Perhaps you want to know more about who this is. Perhaps I (and Static III) can help you.
I came across this Dekline advertisement in a magazine and I wondered who the hell Soy Panday was and where he came from. Turns out he grew up French, with Indian blood, and his name could have any combination of the following etymologies: Soy—1) As in, short for Sawyer, 2) The name of a bean used in soy sauce or, perhaps, 3) the Spanish verb meaning "I am." The latter makes more sense, when you take into account that Panday derives from the Indian surname Pandey, meaning "learned man" or "scholar." If those are the origins of his name, his full name means "I am a learned man." Pretty sick name for your parents give you.

Apparently more important to this particular skateboard site, Soy Panday is also ripping and reminiscent of the worldly cruising made largely famous by Kenny Reed (a friend of his). He rides for Britain's Landscape skateboards. Ironically enough, many of these skaters who seem born out of the hippy movement that espouses a dislike of globalization have reaped so many rewards from skateboard coverage on a global scale. Rad and weird how these things flip and spin upon their head. However he got noticed, he's entertaining to watch skate in Static III. Take a look.

Skater of the Year

Would race or gender be as central to a SOTY vote? Maybe, but not as much. A good skater is a good skater.

Atlas

Atlas skate shop is down for Obama.
Atlas

Change Atlas can believe in.

Atlas Skateboard Store are throwing their influence and weight behind Obama. The shop made some very limited-edition decks endorsing the candidate with all proceeds from those sales going towards his campaign.

And don't forget about Lakai who made some limited election series kicks so you can do your civic duty while still looking Flossy.

Get out there and vote. Do it today before you go skate. And, though you might like to, remember Koston for President might not be the best choice (he still needs to learn hardflips before he can run my country).

HALLOWEEN HELLRAISER SKATEBOARD SHOWDOWN

While the rest of the world nursed Halloween hangovers from the previous nights debauchery, shuffling home amidst their costumed "walks of shame," skateboarders from and around New York City downed their coffees, killed a bagel and dealt with their pain accordingly...like g'damned warriors, that is. Tony Memento

Jahmal Williams Unleashes A Frontside Bluntslide Transfer Shortly Before The Crowd Piles In
It was the day after Halloween and the start of November. And for those, 'in the know,' the day of the first ever Halloween Hellraiser Skateboard Showdown. It was an amazing day for skating in Lower Manhattan, with picture perfect weather. But on this day, most of the rawness would go down 5 stories about street level, on the Open Road Rooftop, aka, the top floor the New Design High School. Getting to the roof was gnarly. The seemingly endless sets of stairs were a bitch on ones thighs, especially if those thighs were atrophied like mine had apparently become. However, once to the top, you were set (and trapped, because nobody wanted to trek up those goddamned steps twice). There, before us all, was a vast sovereign portion of society commanded by nothing but skateboarding. Skaters, many in costume pushed around joyously, warming up on all of the freshly fixed obstacles so that they may get a shot at a bit of the $3 G's in cash up for grabs. A barbecue blazed with hotdogs and hamburgers, Redbull's were being handed out by sexually attractive women and the DJ booth pumped out hip hop.

The format was simple. There would be three jam style sessions on three seperate obstacles. You ride away from something good, you get a stack of cash from announcers Billy Rohan and Alex Corporan.

Tony Memento

These Two Killed It All Day...Manny Santiago & Brett Conti
Off the bat, pandemonium hit. The first obstacle was a kicker that went over a long funbox. A bunch of people were referring to this one as the "Gino Box" for obvious reasons. Hungry for the cash and a chance to land their trick, dudes were straight hucking themselves off that thing, one after another, literally landing on top of each other. The carnage I witnessed closely resembled the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan. But soon, the moderators took control and allowed a bit of room for some actual skating to happen. Manny Santiago 360 pop shoved the thing, Black Dave kickflip back lipped the ledge portion of the box, some kid on 5boro did a buttery frontside pop shuvit over it, another kid blasted a large backside 360 and just as time was called, Nick Sassa rolled away from a giant nollie bigspin.

Tony Memento

Ralph Murphy Of Substance Skateboards, Rocks The Acapulco Wall
The Red Bull Jersey Barrier was definitely not easy to skate. It was super quick and if you're weren't careful, you'd be sent looping out, flailing for you life. Nick Sassa skated the thing like it was a spine ramp in the low-impact kiddy section of the park. Blunt fakies, ollie transfers etc. Little Sean Wallace was nailing feeble transfers like a veteran. Jahmal Williams was sliding highspeed blunt transfers both ways all day and some kid named Dylan was Dylan did a blunt backside disaster, front rock transfer, in a silent ode to Chad Vogt.

Tony Memento

Black Dave...Frontside Nosegrind
The third and final contest took place on both the ten stair rail and Acapulco Wallride. Kids were going for broke and destroying themselves in the process. On the wallride, Nick Sassa had buttery alley oop wallrides and wallride step offs, no problem. And one of the craziest ones that nobody saw coming, was Robert Lopez-Mont's frontside Miller Flip over the two wallride ramp gap. Black Dave nosegrinded and front blunted the rail like a champion. Clint Peterson backside 360'ed the 10 stair and Manny Santiago frontside shoved to a feeble down the rail. Insane.

Tony Memento

Alex "Run" Corporan & Billy "Shriner" Rohan Handle The Crowd With Authority
When the day was over, a bunch of guys walked away with some bundles of cash, tons of product was raffled off, some good costumes were worn, a father and son fight broke out and some exceptional skateboarding was busted. Here's who walked away with the money.

Gino Box

1st Place-Manny Santiago- 360 pop shuv it
2nd Place-Nick Sassa- Nollie Bigspin
3rd Place-5boro Jon, Frontside pop shuv it

10 Stair Rail/Acapulco Gold Wallride

2nd Place-Robert Mont-Lopez, Frontside Wallride to flat, Frontside Miller Flip on the AG Wallride
3rd Place-Nick Sassa-Alley Oop wallride, Wallride step-off

Tony Memento

Nick Sassa Got Paid
All in all, it was an excellent day of skateboarding. Good weather, good vibes and some rad as f*&k skating. A hefty shout-out goes directly to everyone who made this contest another phenominal New York event especially, Billy Rohan, Alex Corporan, Acapulco Gold, Run My Game Productions, Open Road Of New York, Adrian Lopez of Rock Star Bearings, Vans, Red Bull, Substance Skateboards, Prize Fighter Cutlery, Tony Memento for hooking up photos and the skaters of NYC. Hopefully this one will happen every year, folks.

Kristian Svitak just e-mailed us with news of his new wheel company called LandShark. Fellow 1031er Ben Raybourn rounds out the lean/mean team so far. Check out their website right about here.

Well it has been almost 3 years since my buddy and I started 1031. Yeah, crazy! And people still dont know who we are. Your right we suck! We suck so bad we decided to start another company to bring us down even further. I am here to announce LandShark wheels! We wanted to do this about 2 years ago but we where too broke. Since then we decided to cut back on eating so many corn dogs so we could save the money to do it. When we knew we wanted to do this my buddy asked “what should we call it?” I looked down at my forearm and saw one of my mistakes I got at the tattoo shop about 5 years ago. Yeah, I thought it was real clever to get “LandShark” along with a skateboard with a shark fin on it tattooed on my arm. Duh! But, as I looked down at my arm, I said “Ive got it! LandShark wheels! I even have a logo ready to go!” So there it is, More bullshit to flood the market. The web site will be up as soon as our buddy makes one for us. It will be LandSharkwheels.com . As for a team? You think anybody wants to be a part of our lame shit? No just kidding! That is all building right now. The one dude that is definatly on it is Ben Raybourn. Shit maybe it will just be him. Who cares ,no one will buy this crap anyways!

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 LandShark GO!

About seven years ago, the only thing I knew about Lutzka, I knew from my brother, Than, who lived in Wisconsin. "He's really good. He can shred the bowl and he kills the street course," he told me. Then, he told me he rode for Illenium, which was a skate company beloved in the Midwest. Illenium? I thought, that's rad. A few days later, I went to visit my brother in Milwaukee and saw Lutzka kickflip wallride from a quarterpipe to a bank-to-wall. This, to me, was amazing, since I was considerably more worse than I am now.

Nowadays, Lutzka is a steady killer for Almost, Oakley, Globe and Monster. The latter has allegedly bought him a house, which is amazing to me. They also provided him with a fedora that he wears in almost all of his footage. He's even got a far advanced sequence of effects and partying and girls and bottles of champagne in his Globe part. I think Lutzka's awesome and he's come a long, long way. As I watch him in Globe's United by Fate Episode 4, whipping full kickflip frontside three sixties, I ask myself…is there any way at all to get sponsored by Monster? Does anyone know? I really need to get off my friend's couch. I urge you to consider me as a representative. This is what it could look like.—Josh Brooks

Widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Miles Davis was at the forefront of almost every major development in Jazz from World War II to the 1990s. In his career he touched on be-bop, cool jazz, modal jazz, funk, and on his last album, even hip-hop. Many leading jazz musicians made their names in Davis’ groups, including pianist Herbie Hancock and saxophonist John Coltrane. Outside of his genius as a musician, Miles was an iconic figure in terms of his personal style and his attitude and defined what ‘cool’ really was.

In light of the 50th anniversary of the release of ‘Kind of Blue’ which is regarded by many as one of the greatest records of all time, Supreme along with the Miles Davis Foundation, and Sony Music will re-release a Limited Edition series of three of Miles’ most influential records, marking three distinct moments in his musical evolution - Kind of Blue originally released in 1959, Nefertiti originally released in 1968, and On The Corner originally released in 1972. Each CD cover is a unique, exact replica of the original 12″ Album Cover. Each has been digitally remastered for superior sound, and includes bonus tracks as well as a custom sticker for each title. Along with these CDs Supreme will be releasing a group of Tees, one corresponding to each of the three albums.

Available at the NY and LA Supreme stores on November 6th and online on November 10th. Available in Japan store locations on November 8th and online on November 10th.

Detailed images of all 12″ covers and t-shirts out of the Miles Davis x Supreme collaboration follows after the jump.

Just last night we presented to you the upcoming XLarge x Vans Sk8 Hi, that is part of their Holiday 2008 collection. Another interesting collaboration was done with Zippo on their classic lighter. It features the ape logo and XLarge font logo.

Today we can finally show you a decent image of the upcoming XLarge x Vans Sk8 Hi. It comes with a black/multicolor upper and features a XLarge all-over print. The sneaker comes with laces in every color that is also featured on the upper.

The much anticipated SBTG Bearbrick set will be released this week worldwide. The set includes a 400% and a 100% Bearbrick and for their own online store, there will also be a special t-shirt accompanying the toys. The complete set, including toys and t-shirt, will go for 125 USD and will be released on November 7th.

NEW VIDEO

Sometime after Fully Flared dropped, Jereme Rogers mentioned that himself and the rest of his Plan B teammates where pushing to make a video which would rival the Lakai team masterpiece. I hadn't thought much about what he meant by this until this weekend, when Plan B unleashed Superfuture, a promo hyping the estimated 2010 release of the Plan B full-length. While a couple riders had footage that stood out as subpar by comparison, Jereme wasn't faking jacks about his teams mission to either take on, or take out Fully Flared. The promo starts up with their only am, Ryan Decenzo, getting tech as hell with sh*t like switch frontside hurricane grinds down decent-sized rails. Kids good and clearly demonstrates why he's on. . Danny Way pretty much shut down the mega-ramp. Just watch his no-handed 360 flip on that beast. He also puts down a tre flip manual on a mega manual pad. And you know that giant Vert wall following the mega-gap? Danny kickflips into that sh*t amongst other things. Jereme Rogers was laying down some tech stuff that is innovative as hell. P-Rod, the same. PJ Ladd threw down some buttery lines with ridiculous control. And the ender of this thing went to Ryan Sheckler, who is without a doubt, trying his hardest to put the haters to rest. I can't remember the last time I watched legit street footage of Sheckler. It must have been the Almost video. Sheckler skates fast and goes big. Dude even puts down a kickflip indy on the mega ramp. While not everything in this promo is mindblowing, there are more than enough "Oh sh*t" moments to make you realize that innovation is still a key component in professional skateboarding.

Each season superFishal introduces a new series of three collaborative board graphics which are screenprinted in small limited editions. The concept is to take two artists with completely different styles and have them converge to make a really unique board graphic. This Fall/Winter season sees Jeremy Fish collide with skater/artist Andy Howell to form ‘The Spirit’ deck, which features a couple of Jeremy’s classic figures set in a back drop of Howell’s intricate brush strokes. In his collaboration with Mike Giant entitled ‘The Serpent’ we see Jeremy’s style mashed into Mike’s tattoo based creations. And Jeremy’s conspiring with Scrawl Collective’s WIll Barras leads to a board called ‘The Stack’ which features the motorcycle version of Noah’s Ark.

Vans presents the new Authentic Suede Pack. The pack consists of three Authentics, each coming with a suede upper in grey, dark red and in beige. The pack is classic and very solid and now available at Dave’s Quality Meat.

eS got together with Krooked this season to work on the Square One sneaker, the same model we have already seen these past weeks in the eS x Livestock x The Hundreds collaboration.

The eS x Krooked Square one comes in black suede with contrast stitching and features both brand logos on the tongue tag. On the back it features a small Mark Gonzales graphic embroidery. It is now available at Slam City Skates.

A wildly popular addition to the Emerica team, Jerry Hsu brings together enjoi Skateboards and Emerica for a collaboration on his Hsu pro model. It features enjoi Panda’s printed on the collar, along its mid-top and enjoi Panda all-over-print insoles.

Look out for the Emerica x Jerry Hsu x enjoi Skateboards sneaker release in the near future.

Designed to modern specifications, Peter Huynh’s concept of truckin’ does not include a mullet but results a signature UXA-595X - 5 panel snap back trucker cap. Classic silhouette and patterned to modern fit, the 595X features the first punk’d–out collage series of vintage NY skate photos of Jeff Pang, Peter Bici, Jeremy Henderson, Loki, Kev Kestler, Gio Esteves, Chris Keeffe and rippers considered as the Brooklyn Banks Crew in the 80-90’s.

The UXA NY Skateboarding Collage Cap will be released at skate stores around the glove on 8th of November.

DC is proud to announce that it has teamed with New York artist SSUR for its third collaboration in the DC Artists Projects™ Series. The SSUR III Artist Projects™ shoe will launch November 1, 2008.

“An Eye for an Eye Leaves the Whole World Blind”—that’s the ominous warning running throughout SSUR’s third project with DC. When designing the first half of the project, SSUR III, the artist featured a military thematic as a cautionary tale against war. Earthy and dark greens, blacks and browns set off orange color hits. As with all the other Artist Projects™ he’s done with DC so far, “PAY ME” is stamped across the lace holders.

An all in all solid Fall/Winter sneaker in nice colors is coming from the third DC Artist Project x SSUR collaboration. After the recent Aaron Rose collaboration, this makes yet another strong shoe. Look out for the release this weekend at select retailers.

Today we give you a first look at the Nike SB November 2008 releases. The line-up includes the McFly Zoom Tre A.D., P-Rod 2, Dunk Mid, Blazer Lo and Zoom Harbor. A good part of the sneakers come in grey colors, a good choice for the Fall/Winter season. In general all sneakers in this drop are very solid and much less playful than what we are used to see from Nike SB. All sneakers are now available at CCS.

In collaboration with Boosted, Vans Outerwear is proud to introduce the Vans x Boosted Program. Designed for fast and easy communication on the mountain, the program is available in the Grunt Insulated LTD Jacket and the Down Supreme LTD Jacket. The jackets are embedded with Boosted branded Bluetooth technology that seamlessly links your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone and favorite MP3 device. The stereo headset allows for convenient use on your mobile phone while listening to your favorite tracks, without interrupting your ride.

Nixon, a brand behind many an innovative watch, is branching out from time pieces to include headphones. Three designs appear set for release. Each is minimal, given the respective type of headphone. You’ve got robust home audio pieces, all the way down to ear buds. The use of stitched leathers for the padding puts the Nixon output a little ahead of the norm in their chosen price range ($40 to $200).

2008’s “IT” sneaker for rappers is crossed with the most classic of hip-hop footwear, the 6-inch timberland boot. It’s a pretty nice make up, correct to the brown leather ankle pad. What’s more, the low profile nature of the Supra Skytop isn’t overwhelmed by it. Where other skate companies, like Globe, failed with their Timbo homage, Supra almost nails it. After the metallics and animal prints, taking it back to basics restores some of the original interest in the silhouette. These drop November 28, 2008.
