The drinks would be on Chaz Ortiz tonight, but dude isn’t even old enough to drink. So Chaz can pop open some Martinelli’s instead, because not only did he place 1st at the 2008 AST Dew tour’s final stop, but he also won the overall points award… as a 14-year-old am. Damn. Following Chaz in the overall AST points is Paul Rodriguez (408) and Ryan Sheckler (387); as for the PlayStation Pro results, they’re below the photo…

PARK FINALS
1. Chaz Ortiz, Chicago, 92.75.
2. Paul Rodriguez, Tarzana, Calif., 91.25.
3. Greg Lutzka, Milwaukee, 86.75.
4. Timmy Knuth (A), Melbourne, Fla., 82.10.
5. Austen Seaholm, Anaheim, Calif., 79.60.
6. Carlos De Andrade, Brazil, 77.00 (the following did not qualify for six man jam session)
7. Chris Mendes, Moreno Valley, Calif., 79.50.
8. Rodolfo Ramos, Brazil, 78.75.
9. Danilo Do Rosario, Brazil, 78.75.
10. Ryan Sheckler, San Clemente, Calif., 78.00.

PRESS RELEASE

Chaz Ortiz Wins Skateboard Park, Adam Jones wins FMX, Dennis Enarson wins BMX Dirt, Pierre-Luc Gagnon Wins Skateboard Vert, Ryan Nyquist wins BMX park and Jamie Bestwick wins BMX vert at AST Dew Tour PlayStation Pro in Orlando

ORLANDO - Competing in his rookie season, fourteen-year old phenom Chaz Ortiz won the skateboard park event Saturday in the PlayStation Pro. The victory earned him the Dew Cup as the season’s point leader.

“I wasn’t expecting to win,” Ortiz said. “I came in here just wanting to have fun and I mean it all came together. To win it is ten times better.”
Ortiz took the lead after his first run and improved his score on his second. He advanced to the 7-minute jam session where he rarely fell while executing technical tricks on the rails, including a flip frontside boardslide kickflip. The Chicago native finished at 92.75.
Paul Rodriguez of Tarzana, Calif. was second at 91.25 and Milwaukee’s Greg Lutzka was third at 86.75. Three-time defending Dew Cup champion Ryan Sheckler finished 10th.
Earlier in the day, Adam Jones won the freestyle motocross event and was awarded the Dew Cup as the season’s point leader.
“I won a very big, very prestigious event and I also won a championship at the same time so I’m super pumped,” Jones said.
Jones, from Minden, Nev., took the lead in his first run and retained it throughout the event. He executed a stripper flip, a turntable and a KOD flip during the competition.
Australian Robbie Maddison was second at 93.10 and Jeremy Lusk, from San Diego, was third at 92.57.
The 24-year old Jones won two of the three events this season and said he was nervous heading into the final stop.
“I tried to tell myself I didn’t feel any pressure, but I felt a fair bit of pressure,” Jones said. “I didn’t sleep at all last night. I was tossing and turning all night.”
Dennis Enarson won the BMX dirt event and Pierre-Luc Gagnon won the skateboard vert event Saturday.

In BMX dirt, Enarson won the event for his first AST Dew Tour victory of the season and Cameron White earned his first Dew Cup as the season champion.

Enarson’s best two runs in the three-run finals included a backflip tailwhip, a 360 tuck no-hander, and a 360 double tailwhip. The 17-year-old from La Mesa, Calif. finished with a 93.33 point average.
Australian Corey Bohan was second at 93.17 and fellow countryman White was third at 93.09.
“I definitely wanted to get on the podium this year and it makes me a lot more excited to go out with a win,” Enarson said. “I just liked the jumps and it was a good day.”
Enarson’s last AST win in BMX dirt was at the Vans Invitational in Portland in August of 2007. The win in Orlando earned him third-place overall in season standings.
In skateboard vert, Gagnon’s victory earned him the Dew Cup as the season’s point leader.

Gagnon’s winning run included two 720’s for the first time in AST competition, four 540’s and numerous flip tricks and technical grabs. The 28-year-old from Canada finished at 96.00 points.
Andy Macdonald of Boston was second at 87.00 and Danny Mayer of Omaha, Neb. was third at 86.00.
“It feels amazing,” Gagnon said. “After my second run I knew I was in first and I had nothing to lose. I just went for it. I’ve been trying to pull this run all year. Finally I pulled it on my first run, tried it on my second, and had my dream run on the last one. That’s never happened.”
Ryan Nyquist won the BMX park competition Friday to end Daniel Dhers’ winning streak at four.

“I upset Daniel’s streak, but it’s competition, you know,” Nyquist said “I didn’t want to make the judges give it to him, but I kind of feel bad in the end from taking it from him.”
The 29-year-old Nyquist from Los Gatos, Calif. did a backflip over the spine, a 720 barspin over the long box jump and a huge 540 double barspin over the 10-ft. quarterpipe to score 95.00. Dhers of Venezuela was second at 93.33 and Austen Coleman of Los Angeles finished third at 92.67.
“I didn’t know what my score was going to be, but I knew that was pretty much everything I could possibly do,” Nyquist said.
Dhers, the final rider in the heat, was unable to overtake Nyquist after a minor stumble during his run but won his third straight Dew Cup as the season champion.
“Daniel is the force to be reckoned with,” Nyquist said. “It’s a very rare occasion where he can slip up, but I guess the fact that I won makes him human. So maybe that’s the little chink in his armor that everybody needs to see.”
Jamie Bestwick won the BMX vert competition Friday. Bestwick’s win earned him the Dew Cup and he made AST history as the first athlete to win four consecutive Dew Cups.
“What a dream to four-peat,” Bestwick said. “Winning four in a row is a phenomenal feat.”
The 36-year old Bestwick, from England, took the lead in his first run to score 94.00 and the field was unable to best him. Chad Kagy of Gilroy, Calif. was second at 92.67 and Simon Tabron of England was third at 91.50.
Bestwick displayed massive amplitude in his winning run which included a huge 540 and finished with three big flairs in a row.
“Man, what a contest!,” Bestwick said. “The riding this year has just been phenomenal. This fourth Dew Cup at this PlayStation Stop win means a lot to me because it’s a long road to get here.”
Bestwick and Dhers were tied for the title of Athlete of the Year, awarded to the overall point leader.
The four-day competition, which drew 53,566 fans, is the final event of the five-stop AST Dew Tour that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross.

SKATE NEWS

Pete Eldridge has never had it easy. He's always had the talent but for years, it seems like all his good hookups would always fall through in some way. I've known Pete through skating and friends in common for a long time. I won't claim we're tight bros, but I've always had respect for the dude. Way back when (and I'm talking about the late '90s now), Pete was a young buck coming up out of Pennington, Jersey and rode for a little company called Uptown. Though that company never really blew up in the game, it had some ill riders including Pennsylvania underground legend, Chris Yourgalite.

As a young prepubescent boy, in my wildest dreams I would have never imagined that smut and skateboarding (my two passions, not necessarily in that order) would have joined forces so harmoniously. First, Zoo York Skateboards has teamed up with veteran adult film star, Jenna Jameson to produce this exclusive collaboration deck. They'll be only 500 of these barely legal planks, so you'll need to get on one fast. To me, it's a dream come true, really. Then, just when I thought skateboarding had adopted all the pornography it's innocent heart could handle, I got word of this sh*t. Yep, Vivid Entertainment, the gigantic adult film production company has signed a licensing agreement with Canadian skateboard manufacturer, Control MFG to create a line of limited edition decks featuring a bunch of famed "Vivid Girls." Will shops be stocking these explicit decks in black bags the way Randy Colvin's controversial World Industries "Censorship" model had been back in the day? We'll have to wait and see.

Tanner Skatepark Demo and Contest This Weekend
Now, flipping the script abruptly here, let's talk about this weekend. It's Friday and beginning tomorrow, there's going to be a fantastical skateboard event taking place at the Tanner Skatepark in Long Island. Tomorrow, Oct. 18 will kick things off with a demo from LI skate companies, Hazel and Prize Fighter Cutlery. Be sure to get there early to catch a glimpse of some of NY's most underated young hopefuls. The following day, Sunday, Oct. 19, they'll be a contest open to any youngster who's feeling particularly good that day. They'll be free giveaways from tons of sponsors like Hazel, Prize Fighter, Substance, DC, UXA, Vans, Emerica, Red Bull and more. Both events start at 12 noon. Tanner is located on Wilson Avenue, right off the Montauk Highway in Copiague. If that doesn't mean anything to you, either Mapquest that sh*t or ask you Mom or Pops for a ride. I'm sure they'll be down.

5boro Skateboards

5boro Hits The Blvd & Jamestown Skatepark

If you happen to be in the Newport, Rhode Island area tomorrow, Oct. 18, you're gonna want to swing by The Blvd Skatshop. They'll be an instore signing by the 5boro team at 2PM, followed by an extensive demo at the Jamestown Skatepark at 3PM. And if you haven't picked up Danny Falla's debut 5boro board, you should do that today and get it prepped for him to sign. If you didn't already know, Falla's from Queens and one of NYC's finest. Hell yeah, Falla. Hell f&*%in yeah.

Ben Gore got on Stereo

Ben Gore has been a stylish underground ripper gaining attention from the right people for a while now. The Florida native popped up and made an impression in the montages of Josh Stewart's videos as well as a standout part in 411 14.3 (shortly before that company went to the big vhs player in the sky). After a brief stint on Rasa Libre, Ben's been picked up by the Stereo Sound Agency and he's turning up the volume now. —Josh Brooks

éS has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to technicalities. And their new Holiday 2008 Footwear & Apparel collection is no exception. The éS footwear line is anchored by Justin Eldridge’s new Theory 1.5 pro-model—but don’t forget about new colorways from all your favorite kicks. Their Holiday ‘08 Apparel collection is quite silky also. If that belt buckle won’t attract the ladies (or squirrels for that matter), I don’t know what will.

Volcom

Volcom "Arcadia" Jacket"
I know that we're all broke right now and that the economy has gone and taken a big, steamy dump on every American in existence at the moment. However, the weather is making its way towards the cold category, and despite what luxuries you may be sacrificing during these trying times, you still need to stay warm. And if you're gonna drop some cash someplace for some winter gear, why not put it back into the industry that supports your habit...skateboarding. With a compelling ad campaign that's innovative as f*ck and the all-star team of skaters who appear within those print advertisements, it's easy to lose sight of the mere fact that Volcom makes clothing. Yep, they're a clothing brand eveyrone. And hell, in my opinion they're one of the best clothing brands out there, making gear that fits good and looks super good. Two jackets that I'm faithfully backing for my long winter days ahead as a New Yorker are, the Arcadia and the Broseph Von Sickter models.

The Arcadia is a super heavy-duty Army-style, cold punching monster of a coat with a whopping seven pockets. That's plenty of room to hold your chapstick and those Superman Freezy Freakies of yours when the indoors come calling. It also has a warm padding in the body and a removable, elastic drawstring hood. You're psyched.

Volcom

"Broseph Von Sickter" Coat
The Broseph is a buttery, Parka-style jacket that's available in both black and white plaid (shown). It's real warm without weighing you down and features five pockets all around for carrying, stashing and burying those cold nubs. Plus there's a removable faux fur jammy around the hood that lets the ladies know you're a compassionate fella. Who's coming up on that adorable trim? That someone could be you. -Jay Riggio

SKATE NEWS

Pleasant surprises amongst bills, bank statements and debt collectors is a rarity when it comes to the daily delivery of mail. But yesterday, a special drop-ff came my way in the form of a freshly shrink wrapped bundle of goodness, courtesy of Girl Skateboards. It was the much anticipated Girl/Antihero Northwest Tour DVD, Beauty & The Beast. Unless you've been in a coma for the earlier part of 2008, you know all about the joint tour between these two very different teams, Girl and Antihero. This collaboration amongst friends and skate colleagues was brilliant really. Antihero has long since had a solid reputation for being a team of beer guzzling, transition shralping, not showering maniacs, both on and off their skateboards. Girl, on the other hand, has a much cleaner reputation. I mean for the most part, six packs aren't consumed during daily skate missions and everyone on their team is well washed and presentable at the beginning and end of the day.

Girl/Antihero

Rick McCrank. Lien Backside Grab In The Corner
What's unique about Beauty & The Beast is that it's essentially two videos rolled into one, depicting the visual perspectives of both Girl and Antihero teams. The video is broken up into three sections. You've got the "Beast Edit," which is Anthero's cut of the tour, the "Beauty Edit," which is Girl's own edit and last but not least, the "Retard Edit," which is a collection of drunken debauchery and good times throughout the trip.

Antihero's Beast Edit features the same gritty goodness we've all grown to love from Antihero, with the exception of some polished "Chunk" and Mia Farrow CGI graphics. Drunken antics, amazing skating, lady on man dance floor grinding and the lyrical stylings of MC Dirt Nasty is how things start off. The skating is top notch, including everyone on tour. One section of the video features a full-on carve race (complete with pinned entry numbers on each dudes back) while pumping around an insane bowled-out cement park that looks to be in the middle of nowhere. Cardiel, Alex Olson, Brian Anderson, Tony Miorana, Frank Gerwer, Carroll, Koston, Rick Howard, McCrank, Tony T, Robbie Russo and more. It's like watching a home video outing for the day featuring some of your favorite skaters. Courtesy Girl/Antihero

Andrew Allen and Mike Carroll Flaunt There Wizard Staffs In The Woods (Wizard Country)
There's also a death metal infused montage of some of the burliest cement parks around, including Burnside. There's camping, stacking of beer can wizard staffs and tons of shredding. Peter Hewitt is a maniac and public park MVP definitely goes to Rick McCrank, who absolutely destroys it all throughout this video. The best part of this edit comes after the credits with a session on a bump to sidewalk gap that gets wrecked by pretty much everyone.

Girl's edit is more polished as you would have expected and like before, it's a montage style of both teams skating, but with mostly new tricks.Courtesy Girl/Antihero

BA And Cardiel Feed A Seagull Up Top While Max Schaaf Tailgrabs Down Below
Even if it's the same trick from the previous edit, it comes in the form of a different angle, which keeps things fresh after the first edit. Little Robbie Russo is amazing, McCrank still kills, Tony Trujillo has more board control than anybody in the world, Mike Carroll still has the best Japan Grabs around, Rick Howard is still in his prime and Julian Stranger continues to exhibit one of the best styles in skateboarding.

Included with the DVD is a 30 page glossy photo booklet featuring some of the highlights of the tour (the pics here are from the booklet), spiced up by Julian Stranger's hand writing, made famous by every Antihero ever made.

All in all, this video documents a bunch of skaters and friends who are simply having a good time all around. Pick this one up at your local shop and get reminded why skating is still fun as hell. -Jay Riggio

SKATE NEWS

But, in a time when so many heads are disrobing their dogs, how can we know where they're all gonna end up? There's a lot of shoe shufflin'. Garrett Hill's no longer a staple on the Osiris websitio. Trapasso is not on Vans. So where are they going? All the inquiry in the world couldn't get me an answer - it's top secret.

Santa Cruz Skateboards

Back to skateboarding. With the rise of classic deck re-issue's, cruiser boards and more recently, Zip Zinger's, it seems only natural that someone would combine all of these categories into one. Recently, Santa Cruz Skateboards have put out Micro completes available in the Jason Jessee "Sungod", Keith Meek "Slasher" and Rob Roskopp classic "Face" models. Measuring in at between 8 and 8.7 inches wide by 26 inches long, these mini boards come equipped with Bullet 127 Silver Trucks, Mini Bullet Church Glass 54mm 93A wheels and 1/4" risers. Short wheelbases, tight kicks and no excuses not to flip your board. I haven't ridden one of these little bastards yet, but when I do, it's gonna be on like Elton John.-Jay Riggio

Elwood Clothing

Kenny Anderson Signature Jacket
Elwood also has a ton of new gear out for Fall 2008 that definitely deserves to be checked out. Here are just a few items from the brand that I'm particularly psyched on. Kenny Anderson, longtime Elwood rider, and one of the most stylish people to ever step on a skateboard has apparently extended his on-board skills to outerwear design with his new signature line of Elwood stuff. The "Kenny Jacket" is a military style cotton piece that's a mix between a coat and a sweatshirt. Not too warm, not to flimsy and just right for mobility wihen skating as the sun goes down.

Elwood

Elwood "Red Hot" Flannel
Two flannels done right by Elwood come in the form of the Anthony Pappalardo signature button down, and a model called, Red Hot. Pops' shirt is a straight-up, 100% cotton, solid color long sleeve and the Red Hot is pretty much the same, but with snap buttons and a plaid pattern. Real thick, warm and just enough looseness to move around without looking over-sizedCourtesy Elwood Clothing

Anthony Pappalardo Signature Flannel

Elwood

Elwood "Tyreez" Hoodie

When the wind picks up, a hoodie is mandatory if you want to keep that neck and dome piece protected. Hood goes up, bad feelings go away. It's that easy. Elwood has a hoodie that's super heavy duty and even works as a fall jacket if you need it to. It's a mix of a thick as hell sweater, a hoodie and zip-up coat. Good stuff, good stuff, good stuff.

Ever since the unleashing of Lakai's Fully Flared, the bar for skate videos has been significantly raised. For a while, every video was starting to look exactly the same as far as tricks go. Nollie crooks, back Smith, front feeble, nollie flip down a set...and on and on, until the conformity of each skater's trick list had become downright appalling. Then comes along Fully Flared and wham-O! Sh*t pops off like nothing we'd ever seen before. The flip in flip out phenomenon is back and taken to new levels of tech and originality. The skating is fresh, innovative and downright amazing. In a peanut M&M shell, the thing lived up to its expectations and so much more. Since the unveiling of Lakai's cinematic masterpiece, the only other video to come close to Fully Flared's hype, is Fallen Footwear's Ride The Sky. Jamie Thomas has assembled a diverse team of riders over the years for his shoe outfit, Fallen, and this being the first time to showcase their talents, Mr. Thomas was sure to make no mistakes when it came to the subject of half-stepping. Let me be the first or last person to tell you, Ride The Sky is good. It's damn good.

Fallen Footwear

Tommy Sandoval Has The First Part. Here He Is With A Proper Bluntslide
The first part belongs to Tommy Sandoval who comes out guns-o-blazing, going big, getting tech and skating powerfully fast. He's not afraid to ollie a mountainous gap before kickflip bluntsliding a giant rail. His last trick, a feeble to back Smith down a 14-stair rail is absolutely insane.

Gilbert Crockett isn't a character from a Faulkner novel, he's Mystery skateboards' newest am and a Fallen rider. This dude is one of the more tech dudes in the video. Caballarial kickflips down double sets, back tailslide kickflips out and front feeble front 180's out are just a taste of the carnage Crockett puts down. Gilbert is coming up for sure.

One of my favorite parts in the video belongs to Brian Hansen aka Slash. Hansen skates fast and reckless and sketchy in a way that works, keeping you holding your breath before each trick is landed. A kickflip stalefish over a ditch hip and a bunch of creative gap to grind and slide tricks make his part a stand-out. His last trick is burly! I'm not giving it away.Courtesy Fallen Footwear

Chris Cole Has The Last Part. Switch Tre Down A Big Six Via Fallen Ad

Josh Harmony and Matt Bennett share a solid part and skate to Creedence. Alabama native, James Hardy has one of the best parts in the video. Tony Cervantes...airwalk front boards down a rail. Enough said. The boss of the entire operation, Jamie Thomas, holds it down, with a solid, creative part. Billy Marks is a madman and can pretty much do any trick he wants. Kickflip feeble down Hollywood High and switch bigspin heel down Carlsbad. Gnarly.

The curtains belongs to Chris Cole. His part begins with the eruption of Danzig and a slow-motion back nosegrind bigspin heel out. What? This insanity pretty much sets the stage for Cole's monumental part. From a giant switch backside flip down an enormous set to a switch flip bluntslide down a rail to his infamously snipered backside 360 ollie down the Love Park fountain gap, Cole's part is packed with tricks that could easily be enders for anybody else. Just when you think one bastid couldn't produce anymore bangers and his part's song fades out, another song kicks in (Judas Priest) and the hammers continue again. Backlip to frontside heelflip out, a kickflip wallride shove-it out, a street gap 360 double flip and more.

It isn't often that a good skate video comes around that's worth dropping hard earned money for. Fallen's Ride The Sky is worth whatever your local shop is charging for it. Step out today and pick a copy up. In the meantime, check the videos trailer below. If that doesn't get you hyped, I'm afraid nothing will. -Jay Riggio

Elwood

Elwood Pro, John Rattray Goes Burls With A Makeshift Pivot To Fakie.
Over the past year, Elwood Clothing has been taking care of big business. From Elwood sponsored events to their ever-evolving line of gear, to their newly expanded team of riders. The momentum that Elwood has accumulated seems unstoppable at this point and is showing zero signs of slowing. I've been a fan of Elwood stuff since they began over 10 years ago and couldn't be more psyched today on the new sh*t that's happening with the brand. To clearly illustrate my perpetual jocking of Elwood, I am embarking on a post dedicated solely to a brand that's making street baller moves with the grace of a baby cheetah. Elwood, as I write these words, I drain the remnants of my dirty lunchtime martini, tighten the belt of my robe and point to the big bully in the sky. You know why? I'll tell you why; cause this one's for you.

Whatcha doing on October 17th, 2008 at 5pm? Nothing, huh. Well then, you should get your ass over to The Elwood Ramp Jam at Sunken City Skates, which is located at this convenient postal addresses...619 S. Masa Street San Pedro, CA 90731.Courtesy Elwood

Elwood X Beautiful Losers Boxset
In attendance will be the entire Elwood team, minus Anthony Pappalardo, Dan Drehobl, Guru Khalsa and my favorite skater with three names, Silas-Baxter Neal (Ok, I guess that's a big chunk of their team missing from the event, but whatevs). On board will be able and willing Elwood rip-stars, Kenny Anderson, John Rattray, Vincent Alvarez,
and Nate Broussard. They'll be an autograph signing, BBQ and lots of good skating going down. Afterwards, at 7:30pm, they'll be a jam benefit for San Pedro's Channel Street Skate Park.

If you haven't seen Beautiful Losers yet, the documentary featuring the work of skaters Ed Templeton, Shepard Fairey, Thomas Campbell and Chris Johanson, you should do so now. Otherwise, go to the Beautiful Losers film site and purchase this Elwood collaboration, limited edition box set done exclusively for the movie. Boxset includes a Elwood T shirt designed by Geoff McFetridge, an EP of Money Mark's music from the film, Elwood Coasters, Beautiful Losers, Coasters, and an Elwood sticker, all placed in a one of a kind cigar box.
