Zero's scribbled claim, "New Video 'Strange World' In Progress" is not an outright fabrication. In fact, it will be out this fall. Deadline: deux fortnights. Look it up imaginary reader.Zero

Tiger
It will feature the jester pants and/or red suit of Garrett Hill, Lil' Baby Jamie Tancowny, Cycloptual Meleshinski, poetry-reading Rattray, Mr. Benjamin Gilley, last-part Cole, the fine female stylings of Marisa and Elissa, Keegan "Kegstand" Sauder, Murderface Brockman and, yes, the illustrious Chief, as well as all the other talented flow guys around.Maybe even some of these Euro guys, who I'm certain will soon drop that qualifier, and become "the European guy who's ripping all of America's spots". Ahhhh.

Flo Marfaing & Alex Carolino Boards From The Santa Cruz "Save Us" Series
A little while back, Santa Cruz Skateboards released a series of boards entitled, "The Save Us" series, created by NHS resident artist, Lucas Musgrave. The series features different species that are on the verge of extinction and when all 6 pro boards are stacked atop each other, they form a giant mural depicting an ill-ass jungle scene of epic proportions. This mural comes entirely layed out on the large poster that's shrink-wrapped with each deck. The best part of this entire thing is, for every "Save Us" series deck sold, Santa Cruz Skateboards donates $1 to various Wildlife Conservation groups actively involved in efforts to save the animals featured on each deck from becoming extinct. A noble cause indeed. This past summer, NHS main man, Jeff Kendall was kind enough to send me a couple boards from the series to ride. I received boards from two ex-Seek riders, Alex Carolino and Flo Marfaing. The Carolino features a nice rounded shape and the Marfaing a more tapered, pin-like shape. Both decks come with Santa Cruz' signature PowerPly deck construction, aiding in strength and pop without excessive weight. Each PowerPly deck comes equipped with a "PowerWarranty," insuring your purchase against delamination due to workmanship for up to 120 days of its purchase. Not bad. The Carolino measured in at 7.75 X 31.4 and the Marfaing at a bit thinner at, 7.7 X 31.25. I took a break from my usual 8 inch or wider tank and skated both decks back to back. Both boards have medium kicks and a middle-of-the road concave that was noticeable under my feet without feeling overbearing. Each board was light and crammed with a sh*tload of pop that took a long-ass time to diminish. To be honest, I had a tough time determining when I needed to set up a new board. Despite excessive wear to these bitches, they still skated well, seemingly breaking in over time. These boards are stiff and give off minimal flex without flattening out completely over time. I've always backed Santa Cruz. But after riding some PowerPly's, I'm backing Santa Cruz even harder.

Tony Hawk Foundation Celebrates 5th Annual Benefit

Activision Presents Stand Up For Skateparks to support youth in low-income communities.

The Tony Hawk Foundation will host its fifth-annual benefit event, Activision Presents Stand Up For Skateparks, in Beverly Hills on Sunday, November 9, 2008. This family-centric action-sports carnival will feature a vert demo on Tony Hawk’s personal ramp with an all-star cast of BMX and skate pros, including Hawk, Shaun White, Bucky Lasek, and Andy Macdonald, plus BMX icons Mat Hoffman and Kevin Robinson. As many of them are veterans of Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom HuckJam tour, the riders are excited to be re-united to perform for the exclusive event’s 900 attendees.

Co-chaired by Tony Hawk, Lance Armstrong, Rob Dyrdek, Christopher “Big Black” Boykin, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jamie Lee Curtis, Mia Hamm, Dana White, Jr., Jon Favreau, Mat Hoffman, Shaun White, Robert Kotick, Bob McKnight, Scott Greenstein, and Ron Burkle, the Activision Presents Stand Up For Skateparks benefit will take place at Burkle’s expansive Green Acres estate. In addition to the vert demo, the event will include interactive activities, crafts, food, live and silent auctions, giveaways, plus a skate clinic and a special musical performance by Social Distortion.

Proceeds from Activision Presents Stand Up For Skateparks will help the Tony Hawk Foundation fulfill its mission of assisting low-income communities in the development of free, quality public skateparks. A focal point of the day’s fundraising will be the special Pledge Drive for a skatepark in the military community of Tierrasanta in San Diego, California. Many Tierrasanta youth have parents deployed overseas, and the skatepark will be a tremendous recreational opportunity and meeting place where over 2,300 military families and local civilians will come together to enjoy the benefits that a free, public skatepark offers. The son of a Navy pilot, Tony Hawk grew up in Tierrasanta, and this special Pledge Drive at Stand Up For Skateparks will kickstart the fundraising campaign for his hometown skatepark.

For more information on Stand Up For Skateparks, including tickets and sponsorship opportunities, log on to standupforskateparks.org.

A charitable, non-profit organization, the Tony Hawk Foundation was established in 2002 by its namesake, professional skateboarder Tony Hawk, to promote and provide funds for high-quality public skateparks throughout the United States—with an emphasis on the word “quality.” Since then, the Foundation has awarded $2,400,000 to 391 communities. The Foundation focuses on working with local officials and grassroots, community-based organizations that plan to hire designers and contractors with strong experience designing and building skateparks.

The Tony Hawk Foundation was established by a gift from Tony Hawk. Its directors raise additional funds through events, industry donations, and continuing contributions from Tony and other entities. In addition to skateparks, the Foundation also makes donations to other children-related charities, as chosen by its Board Of Directors. DVS Luxe x Ray-Ban collabortion a while back. It’s time for the release, so we give you a detailed look at the sneaker and the sunglasses that were made as part of the collaboration. DVS worked on the classic Wayfarer model and gave it a nice color lining. Matching the sunglasses, they made a low top sneaker in all black in a mix of black leather and perforated leather.

Although the semi-cool Gravis and The Hundreds Black Box Collection was plastered all over the net, the Sureshot backpack pictured above is really why Gravis is still on our legit list. Besides the all-American steez, this backpack is the perfect size, shape, and is functionable enough to be cool but not nerdy–no clumsy wires hanging out of every pocket. Check detailed photos after the jump and cop this Bag of the Year nominee directly from Karmaloop.

If you want to know what it's like to collect a paycheck in exchange for having the time of your life everyday of the week, watch Element's newest online offer, Bam's Or Bust! The short but sweet video chronicles the recent stay of Element riders Darrell Stanton, Collin Provost, Mike V., Brent Atchley and Chad Tim Tim at Bam Margera's Pennsylvania compound, otherwise known as "Bamland." As expected, Jackass-style chaos ensues. Naked slip 'n' sliding, consenual black eyes, 120 MPH Lamborghini speeding, fireworks and penis-dressed four-wheeler jumping, all go down between dead serious skating at Bam's private barnyard street park and outdoor mega-ramp. Try to watch this thing on your lunch break. It's the perfect mix of piss-your-pants absurdity and solid-as-f*&k skateboarding. Actually, don't watch this at work. It will undoubtedbly bum you out as you sit at your cubicle for a mediocre paycheck as Bam and his homies make 50 times what you do for laughing and skating all day long. Sorry for that little dribble of reality people. It's only the truth. And I'll be damned if the truth didn't hurt like a sonofabitch. -Jay Riggio

Skate Coach

Yeah, Woodward's cool and all, but when was the last time you looked into some legitimate camp competition? Ok, Visalia? Yeah, Visalia's pretty cool too. But, if you truly want to roll with the big dogs, you need to straighten out that back and quit pissing like a g'damned pup. Underground skate legend, Eric Nevada, has a brand new approach to the concept of Skate Camp, and from the looks at this nationally broadcast TV spot, his unique program is off the hook! I can't wait to take a go on that Tony Hawk simulator. Big ups, Mr. Nevada...big ups to you. -Jay Riggio

G v R 2008

Regular better get off its ass and do something about this crisis. This guy's freaking out about how Melissa is eating her babies! There are particle accelerators creating massive black holes in Switzerland. There's a whole lot of horrible stuff that's been happening in Africa for years and years that few people have noticed. Oh, and Americans are going to have to pay the stock market our money. We're gonna have to get second jobs. I mean, what is this world coming to?

Meanwhile, Goofy isn't helping either. They keep whining about how David Lee Roth hasn't returned to stardom, despite some of the best quotes in history. All they do is talk in circles about how Goofy is better than Regular. We need some change, like seven billion dollars worth of it, or we're gonna be in big trouble. The system is broken.

Lucky for us, the Etnies Goofy vs. Regular competition is taking place October 2nd thru 5th. Hopefully it will shine some light on the most pressing issues of our century. Then, when it's all over, we can go back to normal and not care about anything for the rest of the year. That's what we're supposed to do, right, not care about anything?—Josh Brooks

Beautiful Antihero

"Let's let bygones be bygones and play some Scrabble."

It was a chance meeting with those strays of the Antihero teaM.Friends of friends traveling with them set up the unlikely situation where our crew from Colorado, the Boulderd**ks, shared the single fire pit between neighboring campsites.

Looking back, it was one decisive move, the opening of the Scrabble boardgame that must have made us such p*ssies. Perhaps it was the confusing grid of stratified squares, the seemingly unfair point system or, more likely, the general nerdiness of the game that made Shorty hate us so badly. I think we geeked his scene; that's the only explanation I can think of.

But, with the release of the unlikely Antihero and Girl tour video, Beauty and the Beast, I don't have to dwell anymore. I can live vicariously through the Girl and Antihero team on their trip through the Northwest.

It's cathartic to see two different groups of skaters get along so well. It helps me look back on that roadtrip from a different perspective. I imagine Shorty sitting down to play a game of Scrabble with us, only to realize the joy of incorporating a 10 point J into a double word score. "Boo yah!" Shorty yells as we highfive and everyone takes a swig off of a handle of whiskey.

Supreme has released news regarding its latest artist-collaborated collection of skate decks. Bringing to light numerous iconic and established artists’ over the years, Christopher Wool is no exception to the mix as the Chicago-born native who’s art-world career in 1984. With 1984 becoming the year that marked his first solo show, Christopher Wool’s work is often featured in black and white primarily as his earlier works were characterized by “tightly controlled, gestural drip paintings and canvases utilizing decorative rollers on white backgrounds to produce floral and gate-like images.” Three years later, the artist would advance his style dabbling extensively into black/white stencil works with selective phrases. His consistency would lead him to showcase his art at the such venues as the Whitney Biennial 1989, Museum of Modern Art, New York, the New Museum of Art Lucerne, Switzerland, and Contemporary Museum of Art, Los Angeles. Three limited-edition skate decks designed by Christopher Wool will release on October 2nd stateside and October 4th in Japan.

Wow, what a milestone. Since 2002, the Tony Hawk Foundation has helped low-income communities open free public skateparks, and the opening of Wasatch County’s skatepark in Heber City, Utah on July 28, 2008, marked the 300th public skatepark to receive financial assistance from the THF. For more information on this incredible park and even more incredibler achievement, keep reading for the full press release…

300th Tony Hawk Foundation Skatepark Opens

Public skatepark nonprofit organization hits milestone.

9/25/08 (Vista, CA) – The opening of the Wasatch County Skatepark in Heber City, Utah on July 28, 2008, marked the 300th public skatepark to open that received financial assistance from the Tony Hawk Foundation. Since 2002, the Foundation has been helping low-income communities develop free public skateparks, and to-date has awarded almost 400 grants to help pay for their construction, including the $5,000 grant to Wasatch County in 2007.

The Wasatch County Skatepark is a 20,000-square-foot free public park, and features a broad range of terrain types for skaters of all styles to ride, challenge themselves, and enjoy the benefits that skateboarding offers. From providing a safe place to skate, away from traffic and other dangers, to promoting a healthy, active lifestyle, the Wasatch County Skatepark is a haven for skaters in northern Utah as well as those who travel to the area to visit the acclaimed facility.

Through grants and technical assistance, the Tony Hawk Foundation helps communities across the U.S. build free, quality, public skateparks in low-income areas to give at-risk youth access to safe, sanctioned places to skate. With over 13-million skateboarders in the U.S. and only about 2,500 skateparks nationwide, most skateboarders are forced to skate in the streets, in parking lots, and other locations where they’re often not welcome. Public skateparks provide not only a safe place for them to pursue their passion for this healthy, athletic, and creative activity, but also helps them build a sense of community.

The next deadline to submit Tony Hawk Foundation Grant Applications is October 1, 2008. Applications are currently available online at www.tonyhawkfoundation.org.

The Tony Hawk Foundation will host its Activision Presents Stand Up For Skateparks benefit in Beverly Hills, California on November 9, 2008. For more information, visit the event Web site at www.standupforskateparks.org, or contact C.C. Flashman at cc@tonyhawkfoundation.org or 760-477-2479.

SKATE NEWS

Only a few weeks before Salt Lake City hosted the Dew Tour from September 11th to 14th, the Salt Lake Valley Health Department (SLVHD) had approved health ordinance #21, an ordinance effectively curtailing a homeowners' right to a backyard ramp.

Just 10 days after the Salt Lake Valley Health Department enacted section 4.5.21 on August 7th, Nick Hale, skateboarder and Salt Lake Valley resident, received an unexpected letter informing him that he would have to tear down his miniramp. The ordinance was part of a comprehensive list of activities— fireworks, garbage collection, the use of certain types of motor vehicles and swimming pool equipment— deemed harmful to the community's hearing.

Unfortunately, Nick had just purchased nearly $3,000 worth of Skatelite to refurbish his ramp's surface.

"I was in disbelief especially since it was a noise ordinance, specifically," says Hale. "You know, I had never considered the thing (miniramp) to be noisier than a basketball hoop, swimming pool or barbeque, or any other backyard activity.

Spitfire

Mountain's On Fire
This past Saturday, it was announced that Stereo pro, Daniel Shimizu, has left the team. No word as to where he'll be heading to as far as a board sponsor is concerned, but if I was to take a wild guess, I'd say he ends up back with old teammate, Ethan Fowler at Bummer High. Again, that's just a wild guess. Don't hold me to that one.

In other team news, Lance Mountain is riding for Spitfire Wheels. Look for Lance's newest pro wheel at your local shop. And when I say "Local shop," I mean not the mall.

In the skate world, no team change is official until a press release is issued or an ad comes out featuring a newly acquired rider. Ex-Lakai rider and newly turned pro, Alex Olson is featured in Vans' newest ad, so he must be on Vans. Now that Alex has the same shoe sponsor as his pops, Steve, could a signature line of goods be in the works? If it isn't already, I'm sure it will be soon.

Fourstar

Fourstar's "A Tribe Called Mapquest" Tour

There's a bunch of new online videos that just surfaced, worth checking out. Dwindle Distribution, the father company of brands like Enjoi, Darkstar, Almost, Blind, Speed Demons and Tensor just released an amazing behind the scenes video about how they make their boards. Vox Footwear has a little "Welcome" clip of their newest am rider, Tyler Surrey. The kid is super good. Adio has a newly vamped video page of exceptional footage from some of their riders. Gino Iannucci's Epicly Later'd episode 7 is up and running.

The entire Fourstar team will hit the road this October for a coast to coast barge that's been cleverly tagged, "The Tribe Called Mapquest" Tour. The tour will include 4 separate demo stops in Arizona, Texas, Georgia and North Carolina.
