SKBSG SK8 NEWS UPDATES

By now, you've seen most of the video, you've read all the message boards and you've sat atop a chopped tree stump, envisioning all the tricks you wish you would have seen flicked or spun over Wallenberg—or Wallieingberg, as Jimmy Carlin accidentally called it the day after it all went down.

But, be grateful—it was amazing and proof of how far skating's come in the last five years. Click below to see some photos of the event, including links in the captions to more footage and coverage you probably haven't seen. Enjoy. Wallenberg Secondhand.

In what can only be described as an unusual incident, Jereme Rogers was taken into police custody Monday morning after police apprehended him ranting nude atop the roof of his home in Redondo Beach. Apparently, Rogers had, "ate some `mushrooms' and bugged out."

Props to Los Angeles' Daily Breeze for getting the scoop on this weird and amazing story. J-Rog upped the ante while being interviewed about the incident as he prepared another illegal substance in the reporter's presence. I'll say one thing for the skater and aspiring rapper, he certainly isn't boring.

Will Jereme show up in NYC for Manny Mania this weekend? Will he keep his clothes on? We'll keep you posted.

NYC skateboard madness weekend is upon us! Pros, ams and industry types are flocking to the Big Apple for what is truly the biggest weekend in NY skate events all year.

This year, Adam Salo and I will be covering different angles of the events with some help from Chris Nieratko, Skate Filmmaker, Josh Stewart and Photographer, Allen Ying. Things are gonna get interesting so keep checking in all weekend long for our exclusive coverage.

Here's a breakdown of just what's in store:

Zoo York premieres their new video, State of Mind tonight. We'll be on hand to catch the flick and scope the scene. The 5Boro 13th Anniversary Party is on Friday night.

The Back to the Banks skate jam is Saturday. Bobby Worrest's éS Shoe Release Party is later Saturday night.Red Bull's Manny Mania goes down on Sunday. And The NYC premiere of Rob Dyrdek's feature-length film, Street Dreams is Sunday night.

We'll have full coverage, so check in every day this weekend for what went down and what's coming up.

Wild in the Streets will probably occur all over the planet, but the Emerica team will be heading for Vancouver to rush the streets on June 21st, 2009. They will also make an appearance at Underworld on Saturday June 20th at 2 pm.

In addition, Emerica plans to host the event, sell T-shirts to raise awareness about Lee Matasi's untimely murder by gunshot in 2005 and benefit the underground DIY project he began before his death.

If you are in the area, try to make it to the event to support Vancouver's growing skate community and pick up an I Heart Leeside T-shirt to expand construction of LeeSide park.
Emerica

Those of you who are unable to make it that far, you can organize your own Wild in the Streets event, find an event already planned nearby or find anything else Wild in the Streets related at www.emericawildinthestreets.com. For more information on Lee, go to www.leematasi.threethousand.org/

While we made our move from EXPN to ESPN, it seems that others have chosen to stay with the X. LA's Xtreme Boardshop are holding strong with Real's best—Ramondetta, Busenitz, Dompierre, JT Aultz, Ernie Torres, Keith Hufnagel, Justin Brock, Damian Bravo, Davis Torgerson and Jake Donnelly. The whole team will be down in LA for a roof top skate contest on Sunday June 7th from 12 pm to 3 pm. If you're in the area, head down to Koreatown Plaza (Roof Top Parking Lot) at 920 S. Western Ave. #343 Los Angeles, CA . The Real team never disappoints.

While I'm talking Deluxe-talk, head on over to the new Thunder catalog . It's got some gems in there.

It's been talked about for many years and now is finally coming to life. On June 1, Vans released its first-ever book, Vans: Off the Wall, featuring 20-some-odd stories that collectively tell the story of the brand: from Rowley to Warped Tour, from Customs to Joel Tudor, from Alva and Cab to artist collabs. The book is 208 pages in hardback, with more than 350 full-color photos, and published by Abrams, world renowned for high quality pop culture books. Vans is rolling out lots of bonus content and book info all of which can be tracked at www.vans.com/vansbook.

Good times were held on the road to Norcal with Matix team riders Marc Johnson, Brandon Beibel, Jeron Wilson, Mike Mo Capaldi, Torey Pudwill, Mike Anderson, Marty Murawski and Danny Brady. Spending five days in San Francisco was ideal for these dudes, handling a Matix catalog shoot and some signings at DLX SF, Mainland Surf and Revolution skate shop in Rohnert Park. At the Revolution signing the team invited the kids to the Santa Rosa skate park for an afternoon of BBQ'in, skating and playing a little football. Biebel, MJ and a couple of random skate-park kids went up against Mo, Jeron and more park kids for a pretty comedic nerf-ball battle. MJ definitely took MVP during that game, even throwing a solid reception to Jeron mid-game. Only problem here was Jeron wasn't on MJ's team. So while those dudes played football, Torey, Mike Anderson and Marty skated the park, grilled some dogs and kicked it with the kids.

When the team moved to Sacramento, the weather got a bit heated (100 degrees, to be exact). Naturally the pool party started at 11 am, ended around 4 pm, then the filming missions began. The Skateboard Mag article should be looking tight in a few months, with almost every rider getting a trick for the article. Sacto shop Ground Zero did it big with a private sushi-and-beer fest before the signing, keeping the dudes well-fed and beered-up for the last signing of the tour. Big thanks to all the shops involved DLX SF, Mainland, Revolution and Ground Zero for their support on this trip and to our Norcal reps Todd and Josh, our homies at "916" for handing out birthday cake and some hella' tight brownies, and FTC for the lift. One final shout-out goes to all the kids who showed up to our signings and hung out with the team. Enjoy the few photos below from the tour, and be sure to Click here for more photos.

Airspeed just added Pat Washington— check his new footage on his site. Airspeed also added Will Powers to the team this month.

We've just learned that skateboarding lost a good one. One time pro and long time East Coast ripper JR Neves has passed away. There are no details as yet about his untimely passing but he will be missed by friends, family and the skateboarders he influenced and inspired over the years.

JR was a child prodigy skater who grew up shredding the Cheap Skates skatepark of Line Lexington, Pennsylvania. With a solid mix of transition and street skills, JR was noticed early on and sponsored at a young age. He rode for Stereo in its former iteration in the late '90s as well as Mike Vallely and Charlie Wilkins' short lived brand, Transit. Later JR rode for the Scott Bourne and Jeremy Fish collaboration company the Unbelievers. After that, JR faded from skateboarding's spotlight but would still pop up at Philadelphia's DIY park FDR on occasion and proceed to tear the place apart.

Deluxe posted this video of JR in memoriam.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to JR's loved ones during this difficult time. His contributions are fondly remembered and he will be deeply missed.

Bastien Salabanzi Wins adidas Skateboard Clash 2009

Creativity, top notch international skateboarding and relaxed moments – that was adidas clash, round 5, in a nutshell. It was a memorable weekend for both riders and spectators, with a creative new street course designed by Jan Kliewer, a freshly extended D.I.Y. concrete bowl, a highly anticipated premiere of the new adidas video “Diagonal” and perfect summer weather. The weekend was also a kind of comeback – that of a contest legend: a charging Bastien Salabanzi came in first. Prague's Martin Jurasek won the “Death or Glory Bowl Jam”.

What happened on May 23rd and 24th was no business as usual. Just like last year, the sun was a special guest, but the street course was given a facelift by Berlin local and German Kingpin editor Jan Kliewer. Thanks to many new bank elements, a doubleset or a „Pier 7“ manual spot, the course was more versatile than ever and demanded some creative skills. The material used for the ledges was not only superb but historical: the granite stems from the old building of the “Palast der Republik” – photographer Adam Sello (Anzeigeberlin) helped to secure the sacred material.

The crowd of competitors was more international than ever. Riders like Klaus Bohms from Brazil, Benny Fairfax from England, Bastien Salabanzi from France or the American delegation aka Skater of the Year Silas Baxter-Neal, Tim O'Connor and Dennis Busenitz made for an incredible level of skating and demonstrates just how popular “the Clash” has become. The skating, the creative environment and the relaxed atmosphere in and around the hall – with sun chairs, catering, a bar and a cafe – attracted many people – over 3000 over the course of the weekend. The general good mood was raised even more with the premiere of the new adidas video „Diagonal“ in the crowded patio on Saturday night. From there, the crowd went straight to the aftershowparty in the Cassiopeia club.

The street course was dominated by creative skateboarders with fluid lines outside of the norm. The level of skating made yet another step, with serious bangers even in the runs. Hamburg's Michi von Fintel nailed a first try switch treflip down the doubleset, Dennis Busenitz ollied up the doubleset and Klaus Bohms nollie frontside noseslid the hubba ledge with ease. The riders used the whole weekend to get to know and skate the versatile street course – because the new elements created so many new possibilities. The atmosphere was relaxed all weekend and even the best trick contest was mellow, spread out over three different sessions.

Between heats, many riders took the opportunity and went for a few sessions in the self-made concrete bowl at the back entrance of the hall. The bowl was beautiful, not only because of the summery weather. Over the course of a few weeks, the bowl had been extended by the locals – now it takes up almost the full space of the patio. It's a unique piece of skateboard architecture that makes every trick a challenge – even just keeping enough speed to make it to the other side.

The atmosphere in the bowl was just like last year – filled with adrenalin. Like gladiators, the competitors went for the battle aka „Death or Glory Bowl Jam“ – people like Germany's Anders Tellen, local ripper Jürgen Horrwarth, Martin Jurasek from Prague or Frenchman Seb Daurel. The crowd went nuts when the riders speeded through the corners and dropped in together in the jams, and they held their breath when two of them collided – Jürgen and Julian Dykmans. Most people expected broken ribs, but after a few minutes, both went away laughing. In the end, Martin Jurasek won with a huge transfer into the miniramp, high bs airs and switch wizardry.

The street competition's winner was a surprise – but then again not. During the weekend, Bastien Salabanzi pushed his level higher and higher. In the end, he hammered precise halfcab flips down the doubleset, flip backlips on the uprail and switch 270° frontboards down the rail. 3000,- Euros of a total purse of 9000,- Euros went to Bastien. He was followed by Axel Cruysbergh, with shorter hair and more energy on his board. A well deserved third place went to Germany's Thomas Weber, who nailed incredible bigflips down the doubleset. Another highlight came right after the final – Klaus Bohms' smooth flip back noseblunt on the hubba ledge, which won best trick.

The adidas Skateboard Clash is a longtime cooperative effort by the “Skatehalle Berlin” and adidas. After five consecutive events, it keeps on going and growing. Thanks to a new lease contract, the location is now secured for the next decade. The contest and everything happening around the „Skatehalle Berlin“ is a direct product of Berlin's active skate scene.

Ed Templeton is a legend and an icon. Those terms get thrown around a lot in skateboarding and, generally speaking, they're often misused. But in Ed's case, the labels are dead on. With nearly 20 years as a pro, a grip of amazing video parts, a thriving art career and an amazing board brand as his brain child, Ed is seriously the man.

Because Ed has been so influential and integral to so much in skateboarding, we're going to take an in depth look at him in the form of a feature article, photo galleries and one knock down, drag out video profile coming soon. We can't tell you much more than that. We can tell you that if you're a fan of Ed, you're going to be stoked. If you weren't a fan already, you're gonna become one. For now, here's a teaser to keep you salivating.

With the destruction of the legendary Wallenberg Four on the horizon, everyone came out to San Francisco on May 30 to rewrite this chapter of the skate history books. This meant some insanity, grips of people both known and unknown and unreal skating. Between Jake Phelps calling people out, bodies flew. And it's clear, that from 2004's Wallenberg contest to now, skating has progressed ... as you can see below. Check back throughout the weekend for updates and photos. It was nuts. Here are the results:

Nick Merlino - switch heel
Cody "Catfish" McIntyre - back bigspin
Chris Cole - back 360 2nd try, switch frontside flip
Lindsay "Juice" Robertson - back side 180 heel
Lizard King - ollie north, back 180 ollie north, ollie disaster
Andrew Pott - hardflip

Gir'ls Contest: Marisa Dal Santo - slide out Ollie for a bucket of chicken. She earned it.
Thrasher put on an awesome event, as always, and Zero, DVS and Quiksilver did well by taking part.
